The role of the Economic Development & Communications Coordinator involves coordinating information to plan development projects with representatives of a wide variety of industrial & commercial enterprises, business associations and government agencies and to develop strategies to attract venture capital; and in administering programs to promote industrial and commercial business investment and tourism. The role also entails developing, implementing, and evaluating strategic communications plans and campaigns that support the Town of Fox Creek’s priorities and objectives, communicate change, raise awareness, and generate public understanding.

The Economic Development and Communications Coordinator shall:

Ø provide management, in the prescribed form, with accurate and timely information

Ø work in close collaboration with members of management and coworkers

Ø provide a range of services to management, residents, and customers.

Functional Responsibilities:

May be required to adhere to processes and policies in support of municipal goals and legislative requirements.

May be required to:

Ø connect with local business community to support, encourage and advise local businesses

Ø market the community to existing or potential investors

Ø act as a liaison between the municipal council, economic development committees and community

Ø prepare strategic plans and carry out economic development initiatives by identifying and promoting new opportunities

Ø compile and update demographic information to promote the community

Ø prepare and sharing communication materials with departments and municipal council to keep decision-makers part of a pro-business environment

Ø maintain contacts with relevant agencies at all levels of government

Ø identify and promote government programs to help businesses, and the community with economic development

Ø build public understanding of the Town’s initiatives and services by coordinating communication initiatives, programs & events

Ø identify and analyze potential issues that may be the result of decisions made around municipal policies or programs and recommend effective responses

Ø develop, edit, and update communications materials such as publications, videos, letters, statements, speeches, new releases, advertisement, advisories, Q&As, digital web and internet content, social media posts etc.

Ø provide strategic communications advice through the organization to help foster positive relations between the Town and external stakeholders champion, manage and monitor the use of all forms of communication including social media platforms, print materials and other communication methods that are available or might become available in the future

Ø develop a plan to reach target audiences with all types of communication platforms

Ø other duties as assigned

Ø attend meetings with various stakeholders including but not limited to government agencies, community and business members and groups

Ø find resources that are relevant to business in the area

Ø effectively utilize various software and programs to create effective and concise communications

Ø seek opportunities for partnerships, sponsorships and advertising

Ø organize events, including press conferences, special announcements, official openings, etc. and serve as the Town’s spokesperson if requested

Ø monitor local and national publications and online alerts for stories about the Town of Fox Creek

Ø research, write and edit press releases, social media management, design, photo editing, and website maintenance

Ø understand and adhere to the requirements of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act

Ø represent the Town of Fox Creek effectively in meetings with government agencies, community groups, boards and commissions, and the public building consensus amongst participants

Ø make effective public presentations

Ø perform all related duties within the confines of the outlined budget

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

Shall:

Ø have completed a post-secondary program, or work experience in a related field

Ø provide a clean Criminal Record Check

Ø provide a Provincial Drivers Abstract Report

Ø be proficient in Microsoft Office applications

Should:

Ø have applicable certification related to the responsibilities outlined

Ø have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License

Ø have experience working for a municipality

Ø build, foster, and sustain a positive public image
