Job Title: Gas Meter Technician

Job Description

We are looking for dedicated and professional individuals to join our team as Gas Meter Technicians. This entry-level position requires a valid driver's license and involves entering customers' homes to conduct facility inspections and surveys on utility-owned gas meters. The role demands excellent communication skills, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work independently in various weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform periodic facility inspections and surveys on utility-owned gas meters.
  • Complete all necessary documentation.
  • Ensure readings and records comply with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the successful completion of regulatory audits and inspections.
  • Conduct integrity surveys, including direct assessments and close interval surveys.
  • Perform audit reviews with operations and provide support during audits.

Essential Skills

  • Valid state driver's license.
  • Ability to walk, climb stairs, and ladders during an 8-hour workday.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to speak clearly.
  • Mechanical aptitude with experience in cable tech, HVAC, piping, or auto mechanics.
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and initiative skills.
  • Intermediate knowledge of mathematics and algebra.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1+ year of driving experience.
  • Experience in customer service-oriented roles is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a team setting and independently with minimal supervision.

Work Environment

This is a 100% field-based position primarily within Brooklyn and Queens. Technicians will report to job sites using their own vehicles and follow daily routes provided via tablet. Training includes OSHA orientation, classroom instruction, and field shadowing. Standard operating hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm, with optional Saturday shifts. Equipment such as a simple tool set, flashlight, gas detector, safety gear, and a handheld tablet will be provided.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Long Island City, New York.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
